Parent Education

Parenting can be a challenge. Where is the user manual...right!! :) Well, our babies may not come home with a " how to" book, but research has proven there are effective ways to communicate, and support happier, healthier children. Such methods can help to promote attachment and connection between parent and child. If your goal is to support your children to thrive and find their best self, then we share that in common!

I have experience and training in many parent education modalities, and can combine and adapt to match the individual needs of your family. Please see some examples of my training and experience opportunities below.

Emotion Coaching

Dr Gottman identified a parenting  style that works called the
" emotional coach". The five essential steps to Emotion Coaching

  • Be aware of your child’s emotion

  • Recognize your child’s expression of emotion as a perfect moment for intimacy and teaching

  • Listen with empathy and validate your child’s feelings

  • Help your child learn to label their emotions with words

  • Set limits when you are helping your child to solve problems or deal with upsetting situations appropriately

Effects of Emotion Coaching: Your child’s mastery of understanding and regulating their emotions will help them to succeed in life in a myriad of different ways – they will be more self-confident, perform better in social and academic situations, and even become physically healthier.

FRIENDS for Life

The online  FRIENDS program was developed for parents by parents in partnership with the Institute of Families and the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development. Our goal is to educate parents about the FRIENDS program that is being delivered in BC classrooms and equipping them with parent-friendly tools and information to practice FRIENDS together at home.
